Mānawatia a Matariki | Happy Māori New Year.
The group of nine stars (also known as the Pleiades) appear in the night sky over Aotearoa, New Zealand each year toward the end of June/early July, signifying the the beginning of the Māori New Year, a time of reflection, renewal & wellbeing.

Initial Comp. Ultimately I decided to switch it up to push the depth of the image.

Blocking Out. Pushing depth. I wanted to avoid making it feel too superhero-y, aiming instead to evoke a feeling of swimming, or flying playfully, a la Peter Pan. My first time trying to paint clouds in this fashion too. A real challenge. Much learnt!
